How short should I cut my dogs hair in the summer?

I have an older yorkie (12) and I have heard that a dog's hair keeps them cool and on the other hand have heard to cut it shorter in summer. Any advice?

It's a personal decision. There are pros and cons either way. If you do decide to have her clipped, be sure she doesn't get sunburned. If you are mostly indoors and has air conditioning, then a close clip isn't necessary, but still might be more comfortable. If there's no air, you might want to keep her short if she won't be exposed to too much sun. Good luck!

Your dog's hair actually insulates them from the heat. don't cut his hair, it helps keep him cool.

An animals fur keeps them cool in the summer and insulates them in the winter.

a dog's hair keeps it cool in the summer. i had a malamute (lots of hair) and she would lay out in the sun during the summer. just make sure your dog has plenty of water to drink and access to shade. you could even get a kiddie pool for your dog to climb in if it gets too hot.
